We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Sayan Makong, one of the world's most knowledgeable Gibbon Heroes.

Sayan dedicated 17 years of his life to bringing back the once-extinct gibbons in Phuket. His vast knowledge and experience of gibbons and passion for conservation were infectious, and he was also known for being a really great talented person to be around, especially those amazing times in the rainforest.

Sayan's contributions to the world of gibbon conservation were immeasurable. He worked tirelessly to help rehabilitate gibbons and successfully returned nearly 100 of them back to the wild.
